”Mercy Brown died of tuberculosis in 1892. Her family feared that she was a vampire, draining their lives from beyond the grave. To prevent anyone else in the family from falling ill, her body was exhumed, and her heart and liver were harvested to create a tonic that the family consumed. When they exhumed her body, it was noted that her blood had pooled into her heart. This was considered proof that she was draining her family’s life from the grave.”
