”Mercy Brown died of tuberculosis in 1892. Her family feared that she was a vampire, draining their lives from beyond the grave. To prevent anyone else in the family from falling ill, her body was exhumed, and her heart and liver were harvested to create a tonic that the family consumed. The liver is inscribed with the instructions of how to create the tonic, just in case.”
